"This piece is to Honour Indigenous Veterans and a way to honour my grandfather who we recently lost. He was a WWII Indigenous Veteran, recruited straight out of the Spanish Residential School, in Ontario. Not many people know that the Canadian Army went to the Indian Schools to recruit the young men. My grandfather mentioned that the army was a piece of cake in comparison. Still, the history of Indigenous veterans and soldiers were not always treated equally to their non Indigenous brothers. There stories deserve to be heard and remembered as well. As I worked, my intention was to create something beautiful and dedicated it to honour all Indigenous Veterans".
